Pesto sauce and pine nuts....?

Is pine nuts a 'must' for pesto sauce? If pine nuts are not added, won't the pesto taste good? Any other substitute for pine nuts...bec. it is not easy to get pine nuts in the place i live, but i love pasta in pesto sauce. Thanks.
