Check engine light keeps going on and off?

I have a 2003 Chevy Impala and since last week the check engine light keeps going on and off. I went on the highway last week and that was the first time it appeared. On my way back home, it didn't come up. Just last night it reappeared again. I got an oil change about 3 months ago. What could be the problem?
