Weeping pea tree damage?

My husband just bought a weeping pea tree a" walkeri". On the way home a limb was apparently damaged . It's split a little and we saw on tv for a fresh split like the one we have you can hold it together with plastic ties or something to keep it together.. So far it looks like there is no wilting.. Anyone have any suggestions or similar problems that they have dealt with? Thanks....
